Meet & Greet in Vietnam

What you should do when meeting Vietnamese at the first time? These are some general notes which help you to be polite with Vietnamese culture and people.

The meeting of Indochina cultural heritages - 02/5/2007

This is the subject of the 3rd ''Quang Nam - Heritage Road'' festival, held from 26th to 30th June. The idea of linkage of these heritages comes from the observation that tourist numbers and tourism investment projects increase constantly during and after festivals.
It means that organizers should find a way of promoting more innovative and diversified activities. Other localities owning world heritage sites such as Siem Reap (Cambodia), Champasak Luang Prabang (Laos) are invited to join in the festival.

HOI AN ANCIENT TOWN - A WORLD CULTURE HERITAGE SITE

Hoi An is located 30km south of Danang City, and 60 km northeast of Tam Ky. Hoi An used to be an international trade center by sea on the eastwest area in the 16th and 17th centuries. It was the busiest trading port in Dang Trong region of Vietnam under the reign of Nguyen as merchants from Japan, China, Portugal, Spain, Holland...often landed for exchanging, purchasing commodities. In the historical progress of establishment and development, Hoi An was known by foreign merchants as Faifo, Haisfo, Hoai pho, Ketchem, Cotam. Based on archeological relics and architecture documents, Hoi An was not only a place of converge and exchanging of many cultures such as: Champa, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Japanese and Chinese, especially impacted most by Vietnamese and Chinese civilisations.

Exploring Hoi An on foot

While walking around Hoi An, exploring the small but beautiful town, tourists - even those who visit frequently - find a quiet peace in the unique atmosphere combining elements of Vietnam, China, and Japan. Most remarkable are the views from the ancient houses, reminding visitors of a far-gone past and providing a momentary glimpse of a more subdued and simple time.

Hoi An in good eyes

Hoi An ancient town is preparing such cultural activities to welcome delegates representing 26 countries for the Tourism Ministry Conference of APEC taking place in October 2006.The photographic competition named "Hoi an in good eyes" is also organized to focus on pulicizing Vietnam.

Ancient Town of Hoi An

The Traditional Village in Vietnam will provide you with an excellent overview of village life in Vietnam. Once you've read this book, visited some rural villages, and acquired a sense of their culture and history, you're ready for a look at a larger Vietnamese community. I recommend Hoi An (Faifo), a coastal community in Danang Province, and that before going there you read Ancient Town of Hoi An, also from The Gioi Publishers of Hanoi (1993).
